چکیده

Two simple, eco-friendly and efficient phase-selective gelators were developed for instant (<45 s) gelation of oil (either commercial fuels or pure organic liquids) from an oil-water mixture at room temperature to combat marine oil spills.

Biscalix[4]arene derivative as a very efficient phase selective gelator for oil spill recovery.

A biscalixarene framework, without long alkyl chains, has been readily synthesized in three steps starting from the parent calix[4]arene. The biscalix[4]arene 1 was able to form organogels in various alcoholic solvents; furthermore, it exhibited an excellent phase selective gelation property that is potentially useful in oil spill recovery.

Alkyl bicarbamates supramolecular organogelators with effective selective gelation and high oil recovery from oil/water mixtures.

A series of alkyl bicarbamates supramolecular organogelators were synthesized with different structures and lengths of alkyl chains. The driving forces for the self-assembly of small molecules, including the intermolecular H bonding, π-π stacking and van der Waals interactions, played an important role in the formation of different 3D network structures, i.e., fibers, ribbons, sheets, and prism...

Iranian natural zeolite particle modification: Green synthesis, characterization, and oil spill remediation

In the present work, Iranian natural zeolite particles (NZ) as an abundant and low-cost resource were modified by chemical covalent attachments of commercially available stearic acid (SA) with tunable hydrophobic/hydrophilic properties. The versatile, simple, and green technique of mechanogriding was performed for the hydrophobic derivatisation of NZ. The NZ and as-prepared modified particles w...

Biostimulation proved to be the most efficient method in the comparison of in situ soil remediation treatments after a simulated oil spill accident

The use of in situ techniques in soil remediation is still rare in Finland and most other European countries due to the uncertainty of the effectiveness of the techniques especially in cold regions and also due to their potential side effects on the environment. In this study, we compared the biostimulation, chemical oxidation, and natural attenuation treatments in natural conditions and pilot ...

Electrospun polystyrene nanofiber membrane with superhydrophobicity and superoleophilicity for selective separation of water and low viscous oil.

The ability to prepare solid surfaces with well-controlled superhydrophobic and superoleophilic properties is of paramount importance to water-oil separation technology. Herein, we successfully prepared superhydrophobic-superoleophilic membranes by single-step deposition of polystyrene (PS) nanofibers onto a stainless steel mesh via electrospinning. The contact angles of diesel and water on the...
